September, the Tampa Bay Rays showed a blazing hot passion and a fight till death attitude that was comparable only to the formerly hapless Boston Red Sox of years past. Ironic, huh? Though the Rays have been a squad with potential for years now, it was only severa years ago that they became a true player in the AL East.
Though the Rays were led by a strong pitching staff and great hitters, they were 5+ games back starting the month of October. We can assume that most Boston fans, accustomed with the idea of winning, didn’t even think twice about whether they were going to make the playoffs back then. Well, after an epic Boston slide, and a fantastic month for the Rays, we end up with the Boston Red Sox recording tee times at a country club and the Tampa Bay Rays getting ready to begin the playoffs.
This would not have been possible without their extremely clutch third baseman Evan Longoria. A soft-spoken man with a good sense of humor, Longoria has finally made a name for himself past being the guy whose name sounds like that of a famous super model. He is undoubtedly a star, and he showed it last night by igniting a 6 run comeback by the Rays and catapulting them past rthe Red Sox into the Wild Card spot.
