Derek Jeter remains MLB’s best selling jersey
Derek Jeter’s popularity never dies.
The New York Yankees legend continues to have the top-selling jersey in baseball, a trend he started years ago and has continued ever since.
Others have come close, but Jeter surpasses them all from year to year.
Jeter may have never won the American League MVP, but he’s in the discussion almost every year. Perhaps more impressive is what Jeter does – and has done – off the field during his 15-year-career.
He has endorsements with Gillette, Nike, Ford and Gatorade, just to name a few. In addition, he started the Turn 2 Foundation in 1996 to help keep teens off drugs and alcohol.
Jeter is the ideal athlete for kids to look up to and parents to use as an example of positive role model.
Jeter has never had a particular stand out year. He does the same job year in and year out; he’s never hit below .290 and has a career average of .316.
It seems like every great Yankee moment since 1996 has involved Jeter. There was the controversial home run that Jeffrey Maier brought into the stand against Baltimore in the 1996 playoffs, the relay throw from nowhere against the Oakland Athletics in 2000, catching a ball in foul territory then jumping into the stands against the Red Sox, and becoming Mr. November with a home run after midnight in a game that started on October 31st back in 2001.
Jeter will be 36 by the end of this season, but is still an every-day producer. There’s no reason he can’t hit .300 again this season and lead the Yankees deep into the playoffs.
As a free agent after this season, expect the Yankees to give Jeter whatever he wants, for as long as he wants. After all, there’s no possible way Jeter will ever wear a jersey other than No. 2 in New York. And that’s great news for every fan out there that has already purchased one of those jerseys.
